What it is

A place to stay while your long-term home gets ready.

MTA is one of the NDIS home and living supports. It is for people who can’t move into their long-term home yet because their disability supports are not ready (source: ndis.gov.au). It is a bridge to your long-term home. It is not emergency housing (source: ndis.gov.au).

MTA funding covers the cost of the accommodation for the time you stay, up to the NDIS daily price limit. It does not cover food, internet or electricity, and your support workers are funded separately through your plan. That is why we plan the place to stay and the support team together.

Who MTA can suit

According to ndis.gov.au, MTA may be funded when:

  • You are leaving hospital and are eligible for SDA, SIL, individualised living options or home modifications
  • Your Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) home is not ready yet
  • Your home is being modified so you can live there safely
  • You are leaving the justice system, are eligible for SDA and are waiting on a vacancy

Common questions

MTA questions, answered plainly.

What is Medium Term Accommodation?
Medium Term Accommodation (MTA) is NDIS funding for a place to stay while your long-term home or supports are not ready yet. The NDIS usually funds it for up to 90 days (source: ndis.gov.au).
How long can I stay in MTA?
The NDIS usually funds MTA for up to 90 days. It may fund more than 90 days in limited situations, if there is evidence you need it for longer because of your disability support needs (source: ndis.gov.au).
What does MTA funding pay for?
MTA funding covers the cost of the accommodation for the time you stay, up to the NDIS daily price limit. It does not cover day-to-day living costs like food, internet or electricity, and it does not pay for your support workers. Your support is funded through other parts of your NDIS plan.
Can I use MTA when I leave hospital?
You may be able to, if you are being discharged from hospital and you are eligible for SDA, Supported Independent Living, individualised living options or home modifications. The NDIS says you don't need a confirmed long-term home in that case (source: ndis.gov.au).
Who provides support during an MTA stay at Chadstone?
Resilient Life Care delivers the support in the Chadstone building, on a 24/7 concierge model with a support worker on every floor. That support is funded separately from MTA, through the support budget in your plan.
